  1. Coffee Cook-off
    • December 12, Sunday, 1:30 – 4:30 pm
    • Red Frog Coffee, Longmont, CO
    • Inside the shop

Everyone has heard of a “chili cook-off” but have you heard of a “coffee cook-off”? Well, Red Frog Coffee is hosting our first annual “Coffee Cook-off”!

    Place: Red Frog Coffee
    Time: 1:30 – 4:30 pm
    Date: Sunday, December 12

What is it? A cooking/baking contest in which coffee must be used in the recipe in some fashion of your choosing. The coffee can be in the form of espresso, drip coffee, coffee beans, or coffee grounds but coffee MUST be in the food you prepare. Red Frog will provide up to a certain amount of the kind of coffee you need.

The different dishes and concoctions will be judged by those daring enough to try them! The first, second, and third place winners will receive a stellar prize from Red Frog Coffee. Think of it in potluck terms and bring enough to share with the others.

Please RSVP to Emily at Red Frog with your intent to enter the first annual “Coffee Cook-off”!

  1. Wendy Pierre
    • December 11, Saturday, 12:00pm – 2:00pm
    • Red Frog Coffee, Longmont, CO
    • Inside the shop

Wendy plays a mix of folk from the 60’s, blues from the 70’s and 80’s and some tunes from her fun rock band days. “I learned folk music listening to Bob Dylan and Joan Baez during my childhood. I also love to play Bonnie Raitt blues, Sheryl Crow and Crissy Hynde, and current songs from Brandi Carlile and others. You will hear also hear some of my originals which include folksy story songs. I usually call on my friends to come out and play with me when they are available; Colin Miller on bass, Victor on harmonica and Chris on percussion. I also tend to ask everyone in the audience to join in and sing along!”

  1. Alysia Kraft Project
    • December 4, Saturday, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
    • Red Frog Coffee, Longmont, CO
    • Inside the shop

First earning a name and a rock-and-roll reputation as her breakneck alter-ego, Patti Fiasco, Alysia Kraft is the flesh and songwriting bones behind the Colorado-based alt-country/rock quintet, The Patti Fiasco. Kraft calls her acoustic project, “the coffee to The Patti Fiasco’s whiskey,” her excuse “to write earnestly, unapologetically, and to perform in spaces too tight to accommodate a five-piece freight train of a band.”

Most often flanked by Ansel Foxley (dobro) and Dee Tyler (guitar/bass) both also of The Patti Fiasco, Kraft blends folk sincerity with a coy Western swagger and rocker’s edge, drawing comparisons ranging from Lucinda Williams to Melissa Etheridge. Born and raised on a family-owned cattle ranch in Southwestern Wyoming, the would-be cowgirl is instead one of Colorado’s emerging musical talents, a sophisticated songwriter beyond her twenty-four years and a truly memorable performer.

Come on in to hear some darn fine music!

“One of my favorite ways of traveling is to pack a small bag of clothes, my travel-size guitar and amp, and hit the road with ‘making music’ as the plan. I normally pick up gigs along the way. Sometimes in pubs, restaurants, weddings, clubs, parties, and my favorite — the streets (busking!… some of the best mini concerts I’ve ever had!). Some of the countries I’ve performed in are Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, France, Austria, Italy, Croatia, Poland, Hungry, Czech Republic, Holland, Sweden, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Scotland, Ireland, Belgium, Mexico, Luxembourg, England, USA… and more! I am a true traveling musician with a passion for sharing music with the world.”

    • Red Frog Coffee, Longmont, CO
    • Inside the shop

“A Midwestern view on the rest of the world,” is one way to describe photographer, Kimberly Foster. Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, Kim’s interest in photography stemmed from 4-H, a Poloroid camera and the imagination of a 6 year old. Since, Kim has been seen toting a camera and taking pictures from the backyard to places such as Europe, Alaska, Washington DC and Colorado.

Kim has a bachelor’s degree in television broadcasting and journalism. You can see some of this in her photos. She also has a masters of education which she uses daily in her work with Housing at the University of Colorado.

Kim and her Midwestern roots moved to Colorado in 2004 for work at CU-Boulder. With a playground like Colorado, the photography passion continued to grow. Two years ago, her husband decided it was time to push that dream to reality and started giving Birthday/Christmas gifts that led to the pictures you see today.

The idea for Sideview Photography comes from the “Sideview” series that boasts the beauty behind you, rather than in front of you. You can find Kim’s photos hanging on the wall, or as stationary and holiday cards. Sideview Photography will also work with you to customize an order. Find her on Facebook, Sideviewphoto@gmail.com or by calling 303.881.5924.

Kim will be accompanied by musicians Brian Axsom and Elmer Barlock. There will also be a taste of other local musicians and will be featuring the talents of CU employees.

Honest, aggressive and passionate The Prairie Scholars document in their music a journey out of the flatlands and into the shadowy world in search of a home.

Jessica, a Sweetwater, TX native, moved to Levelland, TX upon enrolling at South Plains College. She quickly earned the respect of her peers with her captivating songwriting and classically inspired musicality. While at school she met Andy who had also been making a name for himself as a prolific songwriter by incessant recording and performing in nearby Lubbock, his hometown. Soon the two were married and began producing material.

Andy released three solo albums (There is No Underground 2007, Dark Places 2008, Disease in the Heartland 2009), which gained him not only a hearty following of keen thinkers and art lovers but also glowing international reviews. Jessica performed in the band Clandestine Amigo in venues all over the south plains and finally released a live recording in 2009 (Clandestine Amigo). The new album by The Prairie Scholars is titled Strangers in the Modern Era and is available for free as a download at PrairieScholars.com.

    • Red Frog Coffee, Longmont, CO
    • Inside the shop

Hipocracy – the name means “governed by the hip” and it is Hipocracy’s intention to bring forth and play music that is ruled by the Hip: Miles Davis, John Coltrane, The Beatles, Herbie Hancock, Cream, John Scofield, and others.

These artists wrote the constitution when it comes to tasteful, melody-driven tunes making them the founders of Hip music. Hipocracy pays homage to them by not only playing their music but using their ideas “as fulcrums to explore the nuance of the moment .”

Hipocracy is comprised of saxophonist Doug Carmichael and guitarist Keith Wojciechowski so all the songs are modified to fit the current instrumentation giving listeners the chance to expand their musical horizons and hear a guitar and saxophone cover multiple parts simultaneously. There are no drum machines, loop stations, or sound samples, just Doug and Keith accompanying one another.

If you enjoy tasteful melodies and soulful grooves, then come out to Red Frog Coffee on Saturday morning, August 21, at 9:00 AM, get yourself a delicious coffee drink from one of the best coffeehouses in Longmont, sit down, relax and listen to Hipocracy. It will be fun and it will be Hip!

    • Inside the shop

We’re thrilled to welcome the art of James Reeves to the walls of our humble shop, where it will provide customers with visual delight as they enjoy the gustatory delights from our menu. For our customers, James wrote: “Art for me is all about color and visual excitement. I enjoy the creative process of creating a three-dimensional image on a two-dimensional canvas. Art is seeing, and even though we all see what is around us we sometimes miss the dynamics of what we see. I like to bring that dynamic out from what is seen to what is really there. Art is color, it is shape, and it is beauty. With art I would like us to not only see the color of the work I am creating, but I want to have you feel the color of the object you are seeing. It is a work in progress — a process of experiencing and learning. I hope you find what you see and feel an enjoyable opportunity.”

About his event at the frog, James wrote to his fans: “What do a red frog, yellow flowers, and powerful colors have in common? An art show in July, that’s what! I am excited to let everyone know of my art showing at the Red Frog coffee shop during the month of July. The shop…is a fantastic venue for art, culture, espresso, and conversation. I look forward to sharing my art at this wonderful location.”

Join us to meet James and see his artwork, and also enjoy the musical accompaniment of Dustin Rumsey, who will appear again on July 13.
